ABOUT US

Founded in 1979, VFV Attorneys has grown into a well-established and respected law firm comprising five partners, three consultants, a strong team of associates, candidate attorneys and professional support staff. Our operations are further strengthened by a digitally proficient call centre, enabling efficient and responsive client service.

At VFV Attorneys, we are committed to service excellence, integrity and results-driven legal solutions. We view our client relationships as true partnerships and pride ourselves on delivering tailored, practical advice aligned with our clients’ commercial and personal objectives.

Our long-standing philosophy remains simple and effective: if our advice keeps our clients in business, they will keep us in business.

Our core practice focuses on Corporate and Commercial Law, supported by a comprehensive range of specialised legal services including Family Law and General Litigation.

We are equipped to address all key legal requirements under one roof, including commercial agreements, the acquisition or disposal of businesses or shareholdings, dispute resolution and representation before various forums, as well as insolvency and restructuring matters.

Our expertise extends to cross-border business transactions, with particular emphasis on import and export-related matters, including customs, excise control, tariff classifications and valuation disputes.

Under the guidance of some of the industry’s most respected experts, we offer full Conveyancing and Notarial services. These include township establishment, sectional title and property development, property transfers, bond registrations, cessions and cancellations, servitude registrations, and related personal legal services such as antenuptial contracts.

We are also proud to have two qualified and accredited mediators, who are founding members of the Tshwane Independent Mediator Association. They have successfully mediated a wide range of disputes over many years, providing clients with effective alternative dispute resolution options.

Our Specialised Insurance Services Department has been delivering insurance-related legal services for over 22 years. The department’s primary focus areas include delictual recovery and liability claims, supported by an advanced call centre and legal support infrastructure. Through continuous investment in technology and process optimisation, we recover in excess of R50 million per annum for our clients and have consistently maintained a positive loss ratio for more than a decade. In addition, our department provides extensive data support and analytical insight to manage cost-effective portfolios that consistently achieve above-market results. The Insurance Department operates on a “no success, no fee” basis and accepts instructions on contingency.

Mediation has long been an underutilised and underestimated dispute resolution tool. With the advent of a new Rule of Court, rule 41A, it has so become a mandatory pre-action requirement to consider mediation prior to instituting action.

This requirement, together with the obvious savings in time and legal costs, has pushed mediation to the forefront.

The firm is fully equipped to attend to mediations, both in representing parties, as well as acting as mediators. Schalk van der Merwe and Geoff Ferreira are accredited mediators with Conflict Dynamics, and founding members of TIMA, the Tshwane Independent Mediation Association.
